Been trying to figure out what?s up with the A/C in my truck because? well? it?s hot. The system is there, it should work, and dammit I?m gonna make it work somehow or another. The interwebs have pretty much led me on a wild goose chase, and attempts to find a wiring diagram for the system have been futile (GM wants you to spend a small fortune on shop manuals).
Anyhoo, here?s the scoop. It?s a 2000 Silverado 2500, 6.0. The refrigerant is good (almost 100 PSI on the low side, compressor not running). I checked all fuses and relays. Everything lights up on the dash. I jumpered the low pressure switch and the engine idled up like the compressor came on, but the clutch never engaged. Checked the wiring to the clutch, is intact and connections clean. I couldn?t tell for sure but it looked like another wire goes up to the back side of the compressor? It?s a bitch to get to, the engine was hot, so I didn?t mess with it.
The A/C never did work 100% right since I got the truck a couple years ago. Had to run it full blast, otherwise it would cut out. I could shut it off for a few minutes and then it would work again. Lately it?s only been working the first couple times I?d fire it up, then the compressor wouldn?t engage afterward. Last couple days it would work once, like on the way to the store, shut the truck off, go inside, come back out 5 minutes later, fire it up and nada. Hot air. Well, ambient air anyways. Which is pretty much hot, so? Now the clutch isn?t engaging at all. As I said, the system works when the compressor clutch decides to engage. When it does (did) engage it was with a crisp snap just like it?s supposed to. I think the problem has got to be somewhere in the control system, or electrical. Any ideas?
